Review: S.H.Figuarts Kazuya Mishima / Jin Kazama Tekken 8

S.H.Figuarts Kazuya Mishima Jin Kazama Tekken 8

The King of Plastic Fist

I finally managed to check out these Tekken 8 S.H.Figuarts Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama action figures! It’s the classic Mishima feud now in plastic form. Naturally, both sport their Tekken 8 default looks, both come with some option parts and both are actually pretty decent figures. Read on for details, or watch the video!

Overview of the S.H.Figuarts Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama

Since I have a backlog of figures, and these are blood relatives in-game, These came out back in 2024, and I’d seen previews in-person at Tamashii Nations 2023 Tokyo which was awesome, by the way! I decided to check both out together. Double the Mishima chaos! Aside from obviously being different characters (duh), some quick takeaways as follows;

  • Both cost around 8,800 Yen ($90) and were general release i.e. not P-Bandai web exclusive
  • Packaging is largely similar to most S.H.Figuarts figures, with some Tekken 8 flourishes. Both Kazuya and Jin use their respective colour themes.

Sadly there aren’t any effect parts; no fireworks hit sparks. Bit of a shame.

Aesthetic Appeal and Articulation of S.H.Figuarts Kazuya Mishima/Jin Kazama

Both look pretty good, with my fave being Kazuya. And both sport decent articulation with the odd bit of struggles.

  • Kazuya Mishima:
    • The coat is by far my favourite part. I liked the texture work a lot and the colour is nicely done. While I’m not a huge fan of the ball joint on the tails, it can be used to good effect, depending on the pose.
    • Perhaps it’s just on mine, but the default head looks like he is suffering from a cold. The others look good, but my favourite the alt. head with him looking left. It can be used for some great shots. The hair is generally neatly done with Kazuya’s more slicked style.
    • His gloved hands are nicely sculpted, also. All have the raised studs and raised design language from Tekken 8, and the colours also look good.
    • The rest of the body work is top stuff, with a nicely sculpted suit, neat pants, amazingly clean shoes all to produce a great looking Kazuya Mishima figure!
    • The coat does hinder articulation in some spots, namely the ability to look up and reducing his ability to cross his arms over. For the most part though you can get this into the majority of Kazuya’s moves e.g. the (E)WGF, rising uppercut, axe kick, etc. Hell’s Sweep will look a bit funky though…
  • Jin:
    • Jin also looks quite good, with his design mostly accounted for! A personal preference would have been to use either soft goods, or give a textured leather grain to his jacket, the same way Kazuya has a beautifully textured coat.
    • The heads included are a good, standard variety and all look good on my copy. I especially liked Jin’s bangs/fringe being shaped and not the ugly flat look that can occur on some other figures out there. Good stuff!
    • Similar to Kazuya, Jin’s hands have the same studded sculpt and unique glove shape for Jin. Not just the hands, his gauntlets/forearms are nicely sculpted as well, with good colour separation as his are white, red and black in various sections.
    • His articulation is largely the same as Kazuya’s, and also has the same issues of not being able to cross-over his arms. This is probably worse off with Jin purely because Jin has more moves that have his arms bent beyond 90 degrees or crossed over in his stances, so you’ll have to adapt it when posing. I do wish this was modified for his figure.

Conclusion

I was so excited we’re getting Tekken figures from Tamashii Nations. I love both Tekken and S.H.Figuarts, so yeah, my excitement was high.

After posing them and all that good stuff, I’m happy. For me, Kazuya just looks really good. Neither are perfect, and I especially think Jin could’ve used a couple of modification for better range of motion, but these current versions of them were still great to look at, play with and pose. Perhaps it’s the newness factor, but I would say these are better produced versus say, the Street Fighter figures in the same line.

I like these two enough to want to check out the next characters (currently King and Nina Williams). I can’t promise that I will buy them what with life ‘n all, but I am interested. I’m also excited to know who the next wave of characters will be. Ling Xiaoyu, Yoshimitsu, Panda, Law, Lee, Heihachi,… there are so many great characters to pick! That said, I would love to see Tekken 3 Jin…or 4 in karate suit Jin…or 5…or Tekken 5 Kazuya.!
