Final Fantasy X first came out in Japan in 2001; me being in the UK needing to wait several months for local release. 25 years later, the journey with Tidus, Yuna and co. is often one of the favourites in the core FF games. It also only happens to feature one of the most iconic themes in the franchise, “To Zanarkand“.
Celebrating 25 years, Square Enix have released/are releasing a slew of merchandise, across apparel, figures and, what I’ll be sharing here, the limited edition vinyl record.
Released in July 2026 in Japan, but not exclusively, this is a two-disc, two-tone coloured, vinyl set featuring a selection of tracks from the game.
Presentation
We have a standard gate-fold sleeve, featuring brand new artwork for the anniversary by Tetsuya Nomura on the front, with the track listing on the reverse. Although we could’ve just had the logo and I’d be happy, it’s an anniversary product so using this new art makes a lot of sense. Is it my favourite piece from X? No.
The discs are, in my opinion, gorgeously coloured with the two-tone Besaid or Spira blue (my name!) and ice-white. Depending on your record player, this could be elevated even further – I personally have a black plate, so it loses a little oomph when placed.

Personally, I’m quite happy with it. I’ve recently listened to the OST in the car and felt so much was quite ambient, and for a selection soundtrack, this set captures a good amount. Of course, To Zanarkand is there, Fleeting Dream (one of my faves), Blitz Off! and SUTEKI DA NE are here. I say “of course”, but vocal songs in games/anime are not always guarantees to appear on soundtracks due to all sorts of rights and licensing hurdles, but so far SUTEKI DA NE seems to be free of such problems.
The omissions for me, off the top of my, are battle theme and Auron’s Theme. I quite like his theme, alas the priority is clearly Tidus and Yuna, as their themes are present, and all other party characters are not. I accept that.
The truth…
Truth be told, I’ve only now set up my player, and honestly, at the time of writing, I have to use my Bluetooth headphones (I’m taking baby steps for an entry level setup, okay!)
But, to my untrained ears, listening gives me joy! It’s been a while since I heard a record in-person, and hearing these tunes with that distinctive hiss is… interesting. I enjoyed it, but I also grew up with the OST on digital/CD since that was the original medium (2002, don’t forget!), so it’s a bit different. I will not blame anyone who wants clean, digital audio over an old, analogue hiss, I feel it’s quite personal – for now, I like both.
Overall, as a fan of Final Fantasy X and collector of good merch, I’m happy I picked this up. It joins my existing, well-sized gaming vinyl collection that also includes the old FFX picture disc and other FF records.
Beyond this record, there are a slew of other merch, including the music boxes, getting a re-issue during this anniversary celebration.
